Or so it seems.. they certainly don't seem to want to get rid of me. They keep coming up with all kinds of weird reasons to make me not get on a flight out here.
Yes that's right, I'm still in Orlando - the city of queue's. United has put me up for the night in a hotel.
Apparently some thunder storms disrupted a 1pm flight in Chicago, which delayed and ripple-effected everything everywhere else. Subsequently, my flight was going to be late and I'd therefore miss my connection off to Australia.
So, being the thoughtful people they are, they offered me what they have plenty of.. wasted time and standby tickets. They set me up on a flight to LAX at 6:25pm as standby. I didn't even get a mention when they were running through extra seats. So now I have a confirmed flight tomorrow at the same time on the same flight.
Joy, that's at least half way there. Only, the hotel will kick me out at 11:30am.. so I'll be sticking around Orlando airport for, oh, another 6 hours. At least they have wifi access.
Onward to LAX, where I shall get the treatment to which I'm becoming accustumed too from United.. a standby ticket for the 10:30pm flight to Australia. Horray. Undoubtably I'll not get on that and United will have to put me up in another hotel.
I already have a confirmed seat for the 10:30pm flight the day after. So, worst comes to worst I've spent two extra days in the USA twiddling my thumbs. Even better, I get back on a Monday at 9:30am .. so I can rush in to work feeling .. well .. dead and smelly. Hopefully the Managing Director will give me the day off.
