Wow, what a blast it's been! Really, I've had a great time. It was hectic getting here (I really hope my flights home don't become a huge mess!) but once I was here it was great.
On the first day Jim and I went to Blizzard Beach. There's a giant slide there that got Jim up to 50mph! - or as he puts it, the atomic wedgie. The weather was beautiful (I pre-ordered) so I got slightly sunburnt, but hey, it's a holiday, why not.
On the second day a group of us went to Disney World. The Buzz lightyear ride is lots of fun and the space mountain roller coaster is a wild ride.
Then the conference started. You can see my various posts about under the StS category here and what James wrote. The evening talks were great and so were the lunch time talks. I met a whole heap of new people and I also caught up with a heap of friends.
If there was somebody I missed talking to, I'm sorry about that - drop me an email and I'll get back to you.
Some strong messages I got from this conference:
- UI technology (Pollock, Splash, WithStyle) in Cincom Smalltalk really rocks
- VA Smalltalk is back in the game
- Cincom intends to start pushing Smalltalk (finally!)
- Smalltalk has some pretty impressive and world-critical success stories
I'm both sad and glad to be heading home. My sleep patterns are totally ruined by now. They've flipped back to front which is: a) going to be a pain to reverse, b) didn't help me during the conference because this timezone isn't an exact flip!.
Thanks to every one for such an enjoyable conference. I hope to see you all next year.
