More and more the RIAA and MPAA are enticing us to say "good bye". They continue on this insane copyright campaign instead of addressing the very large market of online content. Why? Who knows! But that's besides the point.
Along with this we have the insane scheduling that television stations insist on - showing Australians material that is six months to a year old. It's just unacceptable.
One can only assume that the situation will continue to get worse. Heck, Australia doesn't even have 'fair use' laws - our Attorny General only just recently put them up as a suggestion! Crazy isn't it.
So what can I do as a person? I can cut back my addiction to the stuff. Watch less TV!
So here's a list of the stuff I'm currently recording with MythTV and when they come on:
Type_Link_text_here- Who's line is it any way - 30 minutes, 3am sunday
- Iron Chef - 30 minutes, saturday evening
- Dr. Who (new) - 45 minutes, saturday evening
- Dr. Who (old) - 30 minutes, Mon-Thu
- My Hero - 30 minutes, friday 2:30pm
- Battlestar Galactica (just ended the season), 45 minutes (15 mins of ads), 10:30pm wed
- Stargate Atlantis - 45 minutes (15 mins of ads), 10:30pm thu
- Amazing Race - 45 minutes (15 mins of ads), 9:30pm thu
- LOST - 45 minutes (15 mins of ads), 8:30pm thu
- The Glass House - 30 minutes, 9:30pm wed
- Tru Calling - 45minutes (15 mins of ads), 11:30pm tue
- The Apprentice - 45 minutes (almost over) (15 mins of ads), 10:30pm mon
- Media Watch - 30 minutes, 9pm mon
- Mythbusters - 1 hour, 7:30pm mon
- Survivor (just ended), 45 minutes (15 mins of ads)
So the grand total here is: 7 hours of TV time a week. Ouch. That's a whole working day I've lost there. It'd be good to consolidate some of this time. Generally speaking, it's reasonably spread - except thursdays which is clearly a sci-fi night.
So I'm going to dump Iron Chef, any new season of Survivor, any new season of The Apprentice. BSG is gone, Tru Calling has a limited life left. That cuts me down to 4 hours 45 minutes. That's slightly more reasonable.
It's interesting to categorise here.. Comedy shows: 3, Current Affairs: 2, Sci-fi: 6, Reality tv: 3, drama: 1. Out of that I've cut two sci-fi and two reality. Hmm. Clearly there is a need for more good comedy!
