Microsoft.com was brought down by a plain-old DoS (denial of service) attack today. While it wasn't related to the RPC issue that Microsoft is asking IT staff to patch ASAP, it is interesting to note that one computer consultant feels that Microsoft name servers were hacked to bring about the DoS flow of packets. Question is: How were the name servers hacked, what OS are they running, and are there any patches coming forth to prevent this in that OS in the future?
