Not that anyone should expect that there won't be ANY security issues with Windows Server 2003, but MS just put out a KB article on the first "critical" flaw in W2K3.

As usual, it involves a buffer overflow issue - this time with the way that RPC deals with message exchange over TCP/IP. The failure results because of incorrect handling of malformed messages. This particular vulnerability affects a DCOM interface with RPC, which listens on TCP/IP port 135.

People I know always ask why there are so many bugs found in Windows products in relation to the stable (read: perceived) Unix/Linix platform. My answer: Windows is used a whole heck of a lot more. Get the same number of users on Linux servers & desktops and we'll see a slew of security issues in those products as well.

Bottom line - I'm glad there are so many people running Windows servers and finding these problems. At least I know the best are always trying to crack it. End of rant ...
