I was browsing through MacWorld the other day and stumbled upon a product called iPodCleaner. The ad claimed that not only would it bring the shine back to the back chrome plating of your iPod, it would also remove scratches (even deep ones according to their website) from the white plastic finish of your iBook.
Well, my advice is: Use this product on the back of your iPod. It did a great job and the back of mine looks like the day it was new. However, after even the 5 applications (apply, rub, buff - like waxing your car) that they recommend to get the deepest scratches out with both of their products, I can say that there was only a small improvement. Not that my iBook has deep scratches, but even slipping it in and out of it's protective cover in the laptop bag will yield usage scratches over the course of a year.
My iBook now has a smooth exterior, but far from my dreams of having that brand-new lid that I was dreaming about. I guess that's what $19 gets me - a smooth cover.
