It has been very quiet on my blog lately and for some good reasons. Job.. Kids.. Wife.. Friends.. Xbox.. you know something called "[geek] life".
Also, I have been through a pretty intense process over last month as I have accepted a full-time Sr. Software Engineer position on a new SOC product line at Attachmate. That's right, I moving the family to Bellevue, Washington actually to be precise Woodinville, Washington. I will be finishing up with my current consulting gig on October 8th in Omaha and will be starting at Attachmate on October 13th.
The whole process started about a month ago when a great opportunity presented itself through Jean-Jacques Dubray aka www.ebpml.org.
It started with the resume screen, then a couple of phone interviews (some of them tougher than most interviews in Omaha), and then finally a flight out to Bellevue and numerous face to face interviews with the team (yes, I got whiteboarding questions). I was thoroughly impressed with the talent and passion of the team, the ability to work with some very cool technologies, and the chance to develop a kick ass product. They offered... I accepted.
My wife and I flew out to Seattle this past weekend for a househunting trip and we still have the house sticker shock hangover. We found some rather disappointing houses in the Issaquah/Sammamish area for our price point. The best part was walking into microsofties houses and taking tours of their home offices; to bad the 1800 sq foot house cost 470,000. We ended up finding a really nice home in Woodinville just off the interstate with the help of our tremendous realtor. We probably had the most qualified realtor in the Seattle area for relocation. Marilyn Droukas of John L Scott Real Estate was very dedicated, resourceful, and entertaining (it wasn't boring looking for homes) in our hunt for homes. I would highly recommend her for anyone relocating to the Puget Sound Area.
I will miss my family and friends in Omaha (and maybe the prices of housing) but I am looking forward to working with some very talented people and the challenge of producing a quality product in the services industry.
It has been a very busy month and the forseeable future will be just as busy.
