Since Kent is a Microsoft guy and he blogged it, it has been safely announced. The exciting product code-named Burton that many of us MVPs were sitting on and waiting to talk about has become Visual Studio Team System. The MSDN site now has full information. Also check the blog. I was knocked out by this at the MVP Global Summit and this provides all the “real” software development lifecycle tools that VS so sorely lacked. I have always felt that VS was unsuitable as a software development environment for more than one developer at a time - to build real applications. I think Burton fills a lot of the gap.
These will include (depending on edition):
PreFast and FxCop help developers detect coding and security related issues earlier in the development cycle thereby reducing the overall cost of fixing code defects.
unit tests
Performance analysis tools
Distributed System Designers that help reduce the complexity of developing and deploying service-oriented applications
integrated source control, work item tracking, reporting, and custom policies that enable your team to efficiently manage change in your software development projects
