While I have faith that a large percentage of the developer community as a whole back up their work machines, or at least the code / content portion of their data, I wonder just how many expend that same effort into their home PC's. This follows that same adage of the carpenter who takes home the mistake pieces, but sells their quality work. Today I'm going to reinstall all of my software again onto my HP iPaq 5455.
There will be a subtle difference this time... I will back up my data, so when the battery dies, and it will die, I won't have to reinstall everything again. The sad part is that backup software comes preinstalled on Windows Mobile, and with the iPaq comes free third-party software from the same people that make Ghost ( Sprite Software's Sprite Backup ), which I know to be very good recovery software.
While I feel silly admitting my lack of backup skills, it's a reminder to keep up on it... you never know when a battery...or hard drive... will click, crash, & burn.
