A poster on my blog sent me a comment on another Xbox thread to tell me about an issue that I was completely unaware of.

Apparently, there are a lof of people who are experiencing lockups when running the newer games. It's apparently been isolated to the DVD drive having problems reading the new DVD games. Microsoft used Thompson DVD drives in the first Xboxes released to the public. Later on they switched to Samsung & Phillips.

This user was extremely hacked to find that Microsoft will "fix" the problem for $100, but gave no guarantees that the DVD drive will be replaced with one from Phillips or Samsung.

I'm not confirming the problem, but there are times that I do get weird lockups, and I did buy an Xbox as soon as they came out. There's a website to talk about this issue and sign a petition in hopes of getting Microsoft to pay attention to the problem. My feeling is that if enough people are having the problem, Microsoft needs to know. If it's a real problem, then it eventually has to be acknowledged.
