What is it? Imagine Cup is a student technology competition (open to college and high school) that covers a variety of subjects from software design, to graphics/rendering, to short film, to algorithms.
What is the history? The first Imagine Cup occured in Barcelona in June of 2003. 15 student teams came together to compete for over $50,000 in prizes. This year we will have teams from over 60 countries participating. The theme for the contest is "Imagine a world where smart technology makes everyday life easier," calling on students to design smart .NET applications that use Web services and mobile devices to make the world a "better" place.
When is it? The worldwide finals will be in July of 2004. Competitions that lead up to the finals are ongoing and it is not too late to get started.
How do I get involved? One category, software design, is run on a country by country basis. Each country nominates a winner, and these winners convene in Brazil for the worldwide finals. The other three categories are run online. There is a multi-round selection process that involves online submissions, community voting, timed quizes, etc. In the online categories students compete head to head on a worldwide basis, so the teams that advance to Brazil could come from anywhere.
What can I do at this point in the year? Any student can go to www.imaginecup.com/ to learn about the competition and sign up to compete in one of the online invitationals. The sign up process is simple, and anyone who has questions can e-mail info@imaginecup.com to receive prompt replies.
