I haven't seen this hit the blogosphere yet, so I'll break with my usually all technical content to post it.

As is known, the city of Munich decided some time ago to move all of its computing infrastructure to open source software - Linux, OpenOffice, etc. All this despite a personal visit from Steve Ballmer.

Now for the news. Apparently, none of the small to medium local consultancies had the skills necessary for such a venture. As such, both the cost and time of the project will be greatly protracted.

Couple all this with the fact that HP alone made over $2.5 Billion on Linux last year and you quickly see that the "free" part of open source is melting like the wicked witch of the west ( www ).
