OK, I really don't have much to do while recooperating - so I've been spending a lot of time watching Dallas re-runs (yes, my wife and I watched all of the Dallas TV series). Mostly I watch to kind of poke fun at the poor, pathetic characters who have to endure the trials and tribulations of being rich (I wish).
Anyway, here are some of my random thoughts.
#1. Gotta love the workhours for oil barons. Show up and 10:30, lunch at 1:30, back after 3:00, then back to the ranch for dinner with the family. Where can I sign up?
#2. The boozing. Let's see ... bar in the office. Burboun & Branch for every meeting in the office. Multiple drinks at the Cattlemen's Club for lunch, then more drinks for afternoon meetings (plus any meetings at other guys offices). Now, the pre-dinner drink with the family. Dinner drink, and a post-dinner drink. Then, a nightcap. No wonder AA became so popular while this series was popular.
#3. Doesn't anyone eat at places like Chilis? Everyone seems to dine at the swanky places for lunch. I NEVER heard "Let's go pick up a couple of burgers at Whataburger for lunch". And I'm not even talking McDonalds or Whataburger. I probably eat 1-3 timer PER YEAR at the types of places shown on the show (ficticious) here in Dallas.
#4. These guys are a bunch of whiners. "Ooooh, my husband JR just drove my former lover Cliff Barnes to try comitting suicide ... I just don't know what to do ... booohooo". What really cracks me up is that they really don't have PROBLEMS. I mean, we've got guys being laid off, having to sell their family's homes because of long-term unemployment, facing serious illnesses - REAL problems. There's just no comparison.
Oh well, those are my random thoughts sitting on my butt today. Maybe I'll take a look at some technical stuff tomorrow - after those 10 Burboun & Branch's ... :)
