I like to keep an eye on financial news; I find that financial columnist and analysts often offer an interesting view of the technical world from the outside. Unlike technical columnist, most of them do not have the benefits of being geeks, just years of financial experience and expertise. Today I ran across an article titled "Linux Reality Doesn't Match Hype" at TheStreet.com, this article is interesting because it talks about one of the biggest problems that the linux companies are going to face, which is hype. It seems like Linux is all over the news lately, all over the web, but it does not look like the companies who provide and support linux are really reaping the benefits of this hype.
The question that remains is whether it a poor business model, lack of sales, or the issue of trying to sell free software, that is leading to this lack of results.
