I got myself an SPV
E200 - the first (I think) released Windows Mobile 2003 Powered Smartphone out
there.
The first experience is great.
++ My .NET Compact-Framework apps compile and run on the device - I only get warnings
because I have no valid certificate for them. MSDN has an article
on building Software on the E200! The following table answers a lot of questions
on which software runs where:
Samsung i600 (Windows Mobile 2002 software for Smartphone)
Open
Verizon privileged root certificate
++ The built-in camera does a fine job, the camera-software is good.
+ Bluetooth works nicely for synchronizing with my Bluetooth enabled laptop and with
old the Bluetooth headset that I have. The only drawback seems to be that my Windows
Mobile 2003 Powered PocketPC (Ipaq 4x) can't use the phone as a modem (yet). I'll
keep looking into this issue.
- Battery life seems to be somewhat limited, but I am ready to trade some standby-time
for functionality.
++ The new OS build (Windows CE 4.2) feels very solid and I love the possibility to
set scheduled times for auto-synchronization to the Exchange server.
++ The device is amazingly fast and I didn't notice any laggy behaviour yet, even
with Windows Media playing music and ActiveSync synchronizing at the same time..!
