Talk about mass patch hysteria! Apple is readying the next patch for Panther. This patch comes less than 2 weeks after their first critical OS patch which attempted to resolve some fairly serious errors. This just goes to show you that ANY new product is going to have bugs that need to be fixed - not just Microsoft products (as some anti-Microsoft people will tell you). I'm sure the initial Linux bits had the same faults - but because only techies installed them on a few desktops, we really never heard about it.
So, if you're an IT professional. Forget about all of the dis-information about security and stick with the simple strategy that savvy IT executives have always used. Never roll out the initial release of an operating system. ALWAYS wait until after the first service pack for the OS, and then plan your upgrade path accordingly. Choose the best OS for your business based on features and user base - not on the fear campaigns run by any company targeting the platform of your choice.
