Using Visual Studio .NET 2003 and
the Smartphone
2003 SDK it has been possible to create .NET compact framework applications for
the Smartphone and run them in the emulator for some time now. But with the device
shipped with the Smartphone
Dev Kit by EverLink Wireless, it is now possible to run them on the actual hardware.
What a difference! The new, Windows 2003 powered Smartphone OS makes a very solid
impression as well!
This phone is not locked by any operator certificate - so installing and running custom
software is straightforward - even though the phone warns the user several times that
he is going to run uncertified software on the device.
According to a speech I heard at PDC, developers will also be able to test their own,
.NET compact framework based applications on devices locked by operator certificates
using a special Mobile2Market test-certificate. I however do not know yet how to obtain
this certificate...
Horribly blurry image showing my Smartphone "HelloWorld" application.
