I am beginning to value IM more and more. I have 30-40 people in my IM list, mainly those that I work with or have worked with in the past. These people contain an invaluable amount of information that is available almost at the click of a button. An example, I have a friend that is a SQL Server DBA. I have another friend who is an ASP Developer. He had a question about a dysfunctional database. I was able to get the problem solved in a matter of minutes by getting the two of them together on an IM chat. They didn't know each other, but it didn't matter.

I know that people can take real advantage of others on IM. So if done right, it should be an invaluable tool.
