Its been about a year since Visual Studio Hacks came out, and I finally recovered enough to start on another book. I can’t get into the details yet, but the book is with O’Reilly again and this time around I am writing with a co-author: my good friend Jim Holmes. I am hoping that having two authors will reduce the amount of work and stress for the book, with the demands of my current project I knew I couldn’t do it alone.

We are using Basecamp to manage the project. We have tasks for chapters, sub-sections of chapters, as well as stuff that is being done by contributors. So far it’s been an awesome tool.

Second, we are using a Subversion repository to store the word documents and figures, this is 10x better than the email game for exchanging work and being able to work off of the same copy.

Third, we plan on getting our book into the O’Reilly Rough Cuts program, which gets the book out in PDF format before it comes out in print so we can get early feedback and reviews.

We already hit our first milestone on the book and everything seems to be going smoothly so far.
