What is it with our legal system? For the 2nd time, the U.S. legal system overrode a congressional decision regarding the national Do Not Call List. This bonehead judge thinks that the list violates free speech! OK, now you can pick yourself and your chair back up.

Let's talk about free speech. This blog is free speech. But, I can't pipe the reading of this blog into your living room forcing you to listen to it, now can I? So, how is this any different than someone invading my personal privacy by calling and trying to sell me something? There's law against peddling in person, this is no different. In free speech, the person listening chooses to be there. If they don't like what they hear, the move away. My house is private property. You cannot come on to my property (uninvited) and spout off. There's no different between that and the phone. It's still my personal property. That'w why I have a PIN for my voicemail. It's my property.

There's bigger fish for the judges to fry and with the exception of the slimey world of telemarketing, I don't think there's a phone-owner in the world that relishes being called at home by these scumbags. The courts should be spending more time on true legal challenges that face us all of the time (cyber-law, pedafile prosecution, employment equality, etc).

We're already too connected with our PDAs, beepers, and cell phones. We need a way to make sure that we can stay disconnected when we're in our own home. It's come to the point that I go out to the phone junction box and un-plug the phone cable just to make sure we can have uninterrupted family time in the evening. It really shouldn't come to that.

Let your representatives know how you feel about this crap! Remember, their business numbers are public domain.
