Before the end of of their 1st pre-season game, the Miami Dolphins have sustained injuries to a handful of key players. Before the 1st pre-season game, the Dolphins had the following significant injuries: Pat Surtain will miss the entire pre-season (knee), David Bowens could be out for the year (ACL), as well as Oronde Gadsden (ankle/foot). At the end of the 1st quarter, the Dolphins sustained a rash of injuries: Ed Perry (long snapper) is out for the year (ACL), Eddie Moore (2003 1st pick - OLB) is out for the year (foot), Mark Dixon (starting left tackle) will miss all of the pre-season at a minimum (ankle), Rob Konrad (starting FB) will miss the entire pre-season (broken finger).
It's only the 2nd week of the pre-season, and the Dolphins have lost almost all their depth, and are now pretty well dead at the left tackle position (a position that they gambled on not addressing during the free agency period or during the draft). At least Ricky Williams, Jason Taylor, or Zach Thomas are still free & clear (knock on wood).
So, the Dolphins top pick is gone for the season without playing a defensive snap, and a handful of starters will miss the rest of camp. The question now is not how can the Dolphins finish strong in December - it's can they start strong?
