While I was following several "streams" of Steve Jobs' Keynote at the MacWorld Conference and Expo 2005, the brand new Mac mini was presented and announced to be released at January, 22nd. After all, it seems as if Leander Kahney already was on the right path to comment (Cringely: Apple To Grow Market Share With Subsidized Mac) on Robert X. Cringely's Betting a Billion - Bob's Predictions for 2005!

The Apple Macintosh Mini

The new Mac mini looks a little bit like a power supply, at the size of a jewel case - ingeniously great. A slot-loading Combodrive and an LED on the front and a "Bunch of cool Stuff" inside: FireWire, DVI, VGA, USB, Modem, "pretty quiet" and "very, very small". The "most affordable Mac ever" costs only $499,- USD featuring a 1,25GHz G4 CPU, 256MB RAM, and a 40GB HDD, and only a hundred dollars more will bring you a 1,42GHz G4 CPU, and a 80GB HDD. But: the package lacks a keyboard, a mouse, and a display. Software? Preinstalled Mac OS X 10.3.7 Panther including iLife '05.

Besides that Steve Jobs presented the allnew iPod shuffle, updates on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, the brand new office suite iWork, and enhancements within iLife '05.

Wow! I'm impressed and enthusiastic about the new Apple products! I'm already thinking of buying an iPod shuffle.
