Business 2.0 recently published an OSS-advocating article, entitled Microsoft's Worst Nightmare, that one can summarize by quoting the article's last paragraph:
"There is a lot more at stake here than Microsoft admits," Pederick says. And this time around, there's no rival corporation for Microsoft to crush - just millions of PC users downloading Firefox. That, and a really smart 19-year-old who's just getting started.
The only compelling reason why to switch the browser and be part the Browse Happy! campaign the article lacks to mention is Firefox's ability to be run on multiple platforms like Apple's MacOS X, Windows, Linux and others.
Also, if Microsoft will eventually update Internet Explorer at some hypothetical point in the nearer or farther future, there is considerable doubt about why Joe User should switch the browser again after he/she browsed happily ever after on all the different computers running different operating systems in his/her tiny little home network. Though, honestly, interoperability isn't the greatest of Microsoft's strengths.
