So, my wife dropped me off at the office today, because my car is in the shop and she needed to run some errands this morning. I got out of the car and walked down the stairs of our shared office building to the door of our office space—only to realize that I left the keys to the office attached to the car keys that my wife just left with! I ran upstairs to try and catch her, but all I saw was the tail lights driving up the street.
Unfortunately, my boss (the only other person with keys) was stuck in traffic on his way to a meeting in another state, and my wife doesn't have a cell phone for me to be able to reach her. I went back downstairs to drop my things by the door, pondering what I was going to do between now and five'o'clock when my wife would arrive to pick me up from work. It was then that I noticed the door to the storage/furnace room. It's always unlocked, so I examined the door knob and the door jamb. I realized that it was basically the same as the door knobs to the office doors, and—other than the lock on the knob itself—didn't have any real security features.
So I pulled out my handy-dandy REI membership card, and I slid it between the frame and our office door. Sure enough, it popped right open.
Talk about offering the user multiple options to accomplish the same task within a user interface! However, I think we can still file this one in the category of bugs.
