Yes I listen to NPR every weekday in my car.  No I don't think it is boring.  You should give it a listen if you haven't given it much of a chance.  They do some very interesting pieces that dig in to the story.  Most of them are a little longer and more interview heavy.  To me that is a lot better than listening to other talk radio shows with hosts that consider themselves the star while the news is secondary.

I beta tested this and tried to get them to place a link to the audio in the feed along with the full text, but hopefully that will come later as feedback comes in.  All the links are below.
