I've seen a few people mention these high resolution LCDs lately so I decided to take a peek. Viewsonic has one called the VP2290b and IBM has one called the T221. Catchy names huh? Sure these are big LCDs, (and that is cool) but the part that is really interesting is the resolution. Here is some math to help you appreciate the numbers.
These monitors run at 3840 x 2400. That's BIG. Chances are that you are running 1024x768 on your monitor right now. Figure out the total pixels on your screen by multiplying the horizontal and vertical number and then divide to see how much more information the high res display can show.
That means that these displays are like using 11 of your current monitor. 11! I feel like I am in one of those Total cereal commercials where the guy sees some lady ordering Special K from room service and he tells her she would have to eat a metric ton of Special K to get the Calcium in Total.
Okay, so your monitor sucks. That's a given. It's okay, mine sucks too. You can take comfort in one fact though. You can't afford these monitors anyway because the Viewsonic is $6,399.00, so forget it for a few years.
