Scoble commented on the 7E7 plane continuing to be made in the NorthWest, but then he calls it corporate welfare. i can't deny that according to how you would define that term this is a prime example, but... I hate the term "corporate welfare". I know it happens, I understand that many airlines survive on a constant stream of "free" money, I just think that the term is applied to to many situations. We live in a world where we are one of the most expensive worlforces. I think that we need to offer something to the companies that are looking for a location.
Companies always seem to move like water, they take the path of least resistance. Why do you think you see so many films shot in Canada just near the border, and why are there so many factories just over the border in to Mexico? Those countries offer incentives to choose them over other countries and often they win over the United States. I won't begin going in to anything about NAFTA here.
Most of the time when you hear someone complain about corporate welfare you can easily see the point about how giving the company an incentive helps the country far more than it hurts it. [READ]
