According to an article on CNN a second grader with a lesbian mother mentioned the word gay in school and was punished for using a “bad word”. See the problem that arises when the boy's mothers find out? I can see the argument both ways.
I don't consider myself homophobic. I understand that this offers no proof that I am not a homophobe, but I truly believe gay marriage is something that should have been made legal long ago in all states. There is one issue though; In school and still to this day I occasionally call someone “gay”. More often than not I call them that in situations where it has nothing to do with their sexual preference. I usually notice when I say it, but it just feels like slang to me.
Punishing the child is a little ridiculous though if you ask me. [READ]
