During one of my many brief phases of excitement about a specific product I played with DotNetNuke. I liked using it and learned some things from it, but I haven't played with it since. I don't know why I exactly I stopped using it. Maybe I was frustrated that it wasn't up to par with some of the PHP portals like PostNuke or PHPNuke, but I have another theory.
I started doing web work as a designer. I think I am actually a stronger designer than I am a developer, but that is a moot point. I think that the default skin I was using would frustrate me and I didn't understand enough to really get it looking nice. Now that I know a little more about CSS and ASP.NET I might have to see if I can piece something together. I know there are nice layouts for the software to be found, such as the homepage for 4Brickhead Consulting's Windows Media Player-like site, and PortalPro has a nice header and footer albeit there is room for improvement here and there.
If you have never tried DotNetNuke then give it a try. If nothing else you can't complain about the community not being active. [READ]
