The Alignment Trap

via:mattmcknight Interesting piece from the MIT Sloan Management Review. The idea that "aligning" IT with business goals is not sufficient to be a successful business, save boatloads of money or spur exponential growth, resonates with me. Despite that, I'm more than a little skeptical about the sound-bite sized advice on offer here for improving the situation. What struck me is that, for me, the reason is in both cases the same: the idea that "alignment" won't solve all a business's problems, and that the sound-bite advicelets have limited value, are both suspect for the same reason.

There is no silver bullet.

Two Fred Brooks references in the same week. I'm on a roll.
