I think we have to be realists -- the nightmare is already upon us, and maybe it's not as bad as all that. Full disclosure: I was one of those wild eyed "client-server" revolutionaries that stormed the ramparts of the Glass House, and ushered in the Age of Mid-Range computing. Ahh, the VAX... The point being, I have always believed that decentralized is better, and as the years have gone by, have struggled to reconcile that with an increasingly pointy haired desire to reduce costs and complexity. As in all things, the "centralized-decentralized" pendulum swings back and forth in our industry, and perhaps that's inevitable.
However it turns out, I'm certainly enjoying the conversation with Aloof.
