I'm not a lawyer, and I'm not even sure who "owns" PHP, but I do know that Oracle has been very supportive of open-source and PHP. What would this mean for the language? At the very least it would shore-up its image, perhaps give it the endorsement it deserves. Would developers have to pay licensing fees? I doubt it, I certainly hope not.
Also on the table is the purchase of JBoss and Sleepycat, makers of Berkeley DB and its XMLXQuery database engine.
