oracle A little birdie told me that the rumor on the street is that Zend and Oracle are in talks over the purchase of the PHP scripting language that so dominates open-source Web development.

I'm not a lawyer, and I'm not even sure who "owns" PHP, but I do know that Oracle has been very supportive of open-source and PHP. What would this mean for the language? At the very least it would shore-up its image, perhaps give it the endorsement it deserves. Would developers have to pay licensing fees? I doubt it, I certainly hope not.

Also on the table is the purchase of JBoss and Sleepycat, makers of Berkeley DB and its XML XQuery database engine.
