If you're a fan of the Pacific Northwest (I know I am, and don't worry about the rain), and you're also a fan of Open Source software (ditto), then have a good look at what's happening these days in Portland, Oregon.
To name just a few. I keep hearing more and more buzz about open-source, jobs, venture capitol, start-ups... Googlerecently announced a $350,000 contribution in a joint technlogy initiative with Oregon State and Portland State University to help fund developement of open-source projects. A recent search for "open source portland" returned 7,390,000 matching pages. Wow.
When non-technical periodicals like the Monitor start publishing articles on this topic, then people are really starting to take notice. Plus, buzzing past Mt. Hood as you fly in and out is so very cool.
