I’ve just had a few glasses of vodka on the rocks, but I’m not intoxicated enough to miss today’s public announcement of the Flex 2 product line. The blogosphere is abuzz with news of the new ActionScript 3 programming language and the Zorn-based serverless development model.
So a public alpha of Flex 2.0 (the new 8.5 player, the new Eclipse-based IDE, and the new ActionScript 3-based UI framework) will be available on October 17 (MAX). “Public alpha” means that literally millions of developers across the world will be able to download and play with it. So don’t you miss the fun!
Personally, this is the most important phase in my career. Last year I made the switch from end-user software to development platforms. My users are not Joe Sixpack and Aunt Molly anymore; instead, now I make software with Bob Engineer and Jean Designer in mind. So I’ve moved “up the chain” (to use a cliche). It’s been a great one year working on this baby. Now comes the fun part.
