How do you keep track of responses to your comments on other blogs?

Here’s the situation:

1. You read an interesting post
2. You leave a comment
3. The blog author (or someone else) replies to your comment
4. You have no clue someone replied

Yeah, so the last one’s the problem: no notification. Most blogging tools I’ve seen have no support for conversations. While LiveJournal does have support for threaded comments, notifications are sent only to the parent comment, not to the parent’s parent or anyone else involved in the conversation.

Threaded comments are bad from a UI perspective because they don’t scale. How deep can a thread go?

What blogging tools need instead is conversations. Yep. Sort of like IM. Have you seen the conferencing feature in Yahoo Messenger? Multiple people involved, everyone knows what everyone else is saying.

Sometimes I feel like writing my own blogging software from scratch. Seriously. Most of them suck.
