When discussing the Solaris 10 desktop, someone on Slashdot made this comment: "I've used CDE. It works well enough, but it really is lacking in functionality compared to Gnome."
Apparently this user has never had the pleasure of watching Gnome bleed the colors off their desktop because they had a crappy Sun video card. Not to mention the extra stress on the CPU. One can only imagine what it takes to power the new Java desktop.
When I'm using Solaris, it means I'm programming. When I'm programming, I could not possibly care less about window dressing. Just give me gvim, xchat and a web browser and I'm happy. I'll stick with CDE, thank you very little.
