I know I said this yesterday, but I must stress that ActiveRecord just plain rocks. And, to wave the flag I’ve been rather obsessively waving for quite some time, Borges is really very good to program in, as (strictly) opposed to program .. of? The combination of these two most excellent, but youthful, libraries, have made my current task of writing a simple little business app absolutely fly. Thankyou, David Heinemeier Hansson, Eric Hodel, Avi Bryant, and anyone else who has contributed to these things.
Note that I’m writing the current project in straight Borges, ignoring my whole Labyrinth kick for a turn of the wheel. I’ll get to it, but its nice to have a Borges reference project under my belt so I can snidely comment that “Labyrinth does it better” from experience, rather than.. well… my natural prediliction for snideness.
I have ignored ORM libraries up until now, largely because I’m a dab hand at sql, and tend to think that the ORM layer is just another API to get in my way. Ok. Really its just due to my aforementioned snideness. I gave ActiveRecord a chance because it appeared (to me) at exactly the right moment. Now I suppose, before throwing my weight behind it fully, I should at least check out the competition.
