Feed Description: Which Paradigm? Pretty much all of them. It's about programming, exploring, management theory, development, and other radical notions. One day I'll talk about Ruby. The next day Rails. Javascript will be thrown in for good measure. Maybe even (gasp!) some Java. Thoughts about management style, too. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, all thrown together in a subversive attempt to change the world, but in a good way.
If you're in a situation where you want to try out MySQL, but you don't have access to write to the "normal" locations, you can always recompile from source and reset the prefix when you do the configure in order to reset the top of the tree for the location to where it is installed. All well and good, eh?
Well, there's one piece, one major piece, that is missing. I'm not sure if you can specify the datadir at configure time; but unless you can write to /var/lib/mysql, you'll need to pass --datadir=PATH_TO_MY_DATADIR for both the mysql_install_db as well as any invocations of the mysql_safed.
Joy!
