Today I used part of my nice federal income tax return and bought a Mac tower. A dual core, dual Xeon (i.e. 4 core) 2.66 GHz tower with 1gb of RAM and a 256mb video card. Oh, and a nice 19-inch Mac display.

MWAHAHAHAH!

Why? Obviously, I bought it so I could use TextMate. Duh.

But seriously folks. I bought one for several reasons. First, I needed wanted a new desktop system to replace my 4 year old HP, which I'm going to donate to one of my co-workers who has no computer. Second, since I was in the market for a new system, I wanted to avoid Windows Vista, which is unavoidable on new PC's. I've heard from too many sources, both online and off, that it mostly sucks. Lastly, I wanted something more UNIX-like.

I actually considered a dual opteron with Solaris 10 on it, btw. The desktop on it is actually pretty good. The Java one I mean. Not that CDE crap. But I chose the Mac because I figured it had more toys, looked even prettier, was more likely to work with external devices and was, ultimately, more likely to get me laid.

And now, you must excuse me while I try to figure out how to use this thing.
