If you haven't made it to a RailsEdge yet, then you've missed an incredible event. The instructors are simply an all-star lineup. Where else do you get to learn Rake from Jim Weirich, the author? Rails tips from Dave Thomas? AJAX from Justin and Stu? There were experts on every facet of Ruby and Rails.

The audience was also a great crowd. Sitting next to me was Cedric, who flew in from Belgium for the event. Also at my table were people from AWSConsole, the author of HomeMarks, and more. The quality of the attendees was very high.

Here's an interesting data point... I stood for ChaCha when they asked if anyone was hiring Rails developers. No one approached me. I asked a few others who were also trying to gather resumes, and they had a similar experience.

My conclusion? Rails developers are in such demand that everyone is already doing what they like. I asked around. Everyone is either consulting and loving it (and fully booked for the immediate future) or they are employees and having a blast with Rails. Nobody is out there looking. I know that I could double my consulting income immediately if I could clone myself. :)

Oh, and a big thank you to FiveRuns. They gave away a MacBook Pro! Now that's a conference prize!

Jared
