It appears that the Democrats have recaptured the House and made significant gains in the Senate, possibly even taking control (2 seats are still undecided). The reasons are interesting. From CNN:
"But when asked which issue was extremely important to their vote, more voters said corruption and ethics in government than any other issue, including the war, according to national exit polls."
This reminds me of Robin Williams' quote from his latest comedy: "Politicians are like diapers. Both should be changed often, and for the same reason". It's not that the Republicans are evil and the Democrats are incorrigible. It's the old adage, "power corrupts". The Democrats of the 80's and early 90's were a bunch of pork barrel dirt bags who had been in power too long, and many of them lost their jobs in '94. And so it goes.
The more I think about it, the more I favor the idea of a constitutional amendment limiting the number of terms a senator or House rep can serve. Two terms for senators, six terms for House reps. If we can implement this for the Presidency (22nd Amendment) we ought to do it for Congress.
