The recent movie about the men who hoisted the American flag at Iwo Jima reminded me of two things. First, my mom gave me the book as a present last year and I forgot about it. Oops. Second, I have a connection to John Bradley (one of the six that raised the flag).

It seems that he was good friends with my great-great uncle Tony. My mom and grandparents met him at Tony's funeral. The small town in Wisconsin that James Bradley mentions is, in fact, Antigo, Wisconsin, near where my grandparents lived at the time.

Anyway, interesting little bit of trivia there. Now, on to the book...
