I got back from Vegas this morning. I'd tell you more about it, but you know, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, and all that.
Oh, alright. I'll tell you about it since nothing particularly seedy happened.
The Good
I flew in Friday night with a friend of mine and checked into the Sahara. We spent Friday night just walking up and down the strip, checking out the scenery. Then we went back to the hotel, munched down some Mexican food at a place called "Pacos" (in the hotel) then we went to bed.
Saturday we met up with my friend's friend's girlfriend - got that? - and did a bus tour to the Hoover dam, did the dam tour, did a very brief tour of a chocolate factory and came back to the strip. We walked up and down the strip *again* (this time doing a little shopping here and there).
Later, we ate at a fancy, smancy restaurant called "The Max" (I think) which was quite good. After dinner we went to see "Ka" - one of the many Circ de Soleil shows. It was awesome. I highly recommend it. It kinda reminded me of what a Miazaki film might look like if it were live action, though with a lot more action (and violence). We had a couple drinks afterwards, then hit the sack again.
Sunday we did some touristy things on the strip, like Madame Tussauds wax museum, and explored a bunch of the hotels. By far the most impressive IMHO was Caesar's Palace. That place is *huge*.
Quick note - almost all of the newer hotels on the strip have casinos and shops inside that anyone can visit - you don't have to actually be staying at that hotel to go inside and hang out.
The MGM Grand has a lion inside, btw. That was cool.
The Bad
Don't stay at the Sahara. It's an old hotel that's permeated with the smell of smoke. Spend the extra money to stay at the MGM Grand, Luxor, etc - any of the newer hotels on the strip.
The traffic on the strip is ridiculous. I recommend taking cabs or, if you're on the strip, the monorail. Renting a car would be a waste of time.
The naughty
Sunday night we went to see Jubilee, which is a very old-school Vegas burlesque and variety show. It was...interesting, but only slightly naughty in the grand scheme of things.
There are lots of pictures of scantily clad women on billboards and people along the strip handing out ads for porn and call girls, etc. Folks, this is NOT a family environment. I highly recommend NOT bringing your kids with you.
No, I didn't hook up with any prostitutes. I'm not even sure I saw any.
