I discovered that a few reports on the new RHEL server failed this morning with, "ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported".

Huh?

It turns out that Oracle 10g does not support connections to certain versions of Oracle 8 databases, of which we still have a few around.

Oh, that's just fucking great. Nice bit of vendor lock-in there, eh?

Fortunately, they still offer the Oracle 9i client on oracle.com, so I'm going to be spending a couple hours downgrading our Oracle software on the new machines.
