I'm glad to announce that Mirko, Thomas and Lukas - the Swiss students - have completed the first phase of their work to bring refactoring to RDT.

They ran into a number of bugs and missing features in terms of the AST they used to do their work, so patching those up took a great deal of their time.

However, they were able to get some localized refactorings and code generation which are very useful (e.g. Generate accessors, rename local variable). They also plan to expand their work for a diploma thesis.

The JRuby guys and I are working with them to integrate their patches and get their work into the main trunk. This means when we release RDT 0.9.0 (whenever that happens!) their work will be included.

You can see their progress on their Trac site, read their research report, or download their modified version of RDT for Eclipse 3.2.
