After my hard drive was wiped clean by the kind folks at CompUSA (ahem), I was back to Windows-only at home. With Nero 7 now in hand, I decided to download and burn OpenSuse 10.1.

At first things did not look good, as a bad sector that seemingly cannot be repaired prevented it from being installed on the desktop system. My attempt to install it on the old laptop failed as well. Apparently it's *so* old that the installer simply refused to run. So, it ended up on the newer laptop, snuggled comfortably in its own partition next to the Windows XP Pro partition.

I decided to go with the Gnome interface, which I used to dislike, but haven't tried in quite a while. I'll I have to say is, whoa, nice. The whole installation went very smoothly, it has a nice looking and easy to use interface, and provides some very user friendly GUI elements to make my life a little more comfortable in general. Evolution is sweet, by the way.

The only odd thing is that it appears to have preferred 32 bit libraries during installation, so all of my software packages are 32 bit as well. It's just as well, though - it will make getting the wireless card to work that much easier.

To get back to my typical mode at home, now I'll have to give FreeBSD 6 a shot. :)
