My co-worker had to take an early flight out, so it was just me for the day.
The first talk was Dave Hoover's Acceptance Testing talk, where he and another guy discussed Watir and Selenium. This was a very informative talk and I'm anxious to give Selenium (and some of the supporting tools) a try at work.
The second "talk" of the day was a series of lightning talks at five minutes each. They were all good in one way or another. I think my favorite was the Eclipse talk. :)
The third talk was Joe O'Brien's SOA talk. I enjoyed it, but I think it would be better suited to a RubyConf talk, where he would start with the publish/subscribe architecture, demonstrate a Ruby wrapper/implementation, then move into the topic of SOA. In fact, I suggested this to him as an idea for a RubyConf talk afterwards and he thought it was a good idea.
After lunch everyone piled in for JDD's "Deploying Rails" talks. This was similar to some of the earlier "deployment" talks, but still good and entertaining. The general consensus among all of these types of talks was that Mongrel was the way of the future.
Last was the Rails core panel which was fun. Zed's question about rewriting cgi.rb was interesting. DHH's response was that it wasn't nearly as important to him now as it was 2 years ago, but that it would still be a good idea, if for no other reason than to replace the existing library in the Ruby stdlib.
After that I hung around for a bit, then headed for the airport. Unfortunately, I got stuck in the airport overnight because of severe weather on the east coast that led to my flight being cancelled, and had to wait until 6:30 am the next morning to get out of Chicago. That really sucked.
