Many people using Ruby, and interested in Ruby.NET, may not want to use it on Windows, or with Microsoft's .NET framework.

 

Mono provides the necessary software to develop and run .NET client and server applications on Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X, Windows, and Unix (says the home page), and some smart folks have worked out compiling Ruby.NET for Mono.

 

They've posted their results to ruby-talk.
