Tonight I played Conquest of the Empire II. This is actually a remake of an old Milton-Bradley game. The original game had serious problems, though, as catapults were king. The new version actually comes with two sets of rules - one similar to the original MB rules, and one based on Struggle of Empires. We used the latter.

Despite a valiant effort, I ended up taking second place, losing by a mere 5 points. It was fun, but I've decided that this game just doesn't work well with an odd number of players due to the alliance imbalance, especially on the last turn, where the 4th and 5th players just end up being spoilers. Still, it's a good game.

Verdict: Good, but not great. Would play on occasion.
