Insightful comments by Bill De Hora in a post about the surface expansion of .NET. The premise is that as platforms/frameworks get big and complicated, they end up requiring more specialists than generalists...

Aside from the technology, there's a good argument to be had that we're not especially good in this industry at getting specialists to colloborate and communicate on projects, ergo any platform that acts as a forcing function towards specialists rather than generalists presents its own risks.
